Virtual Assistant Biz

July 10, 2008

Okay, I’m kinda new to blogging, but I’ve heard it’s a good way to put the word out about my business. I just gave birth to a baby boy 4 monhs ago. In order for me to stay home with him, I needed to find a way to make money from home. I have always wanted to start a Virtual Assistant business since I first heard about it 5 years ago, but never had the support or opportunity to do so.

Now I have both the support and opportunity, but have no idea how to market it. The ideas I have come up with so far are business cards, flyers and brochures, but I’m not too sure what to put on the flyers and brochures, other than my business name and contact info.

I named my business KT Services after my son. There are a couple of reasons why you should hire a Virtual Assistant rather than a paid employee.

A Virtual Assistant offers several advantages over a paid employee. When you hire a virtual assistant you get all the benefits of outsourcing – no employee tax and benefits issues, coupled with the loyalty and steadiness of a company employee.

Paid employees come also come with issues. You not only must provide equipment and furniture for them, you also have state and federal obligations, and employer compliance and unemployment liabilities. Then there are the benefits packages – sick leave, vacation time. It is estimated that the true cost of an employee is over double and sometimes triple the cost of their annual salary in terms of benefits and liabilities.

I offer a number of services in my Virtual Assistant business, such as, but not limited to:

  • Realtor listing management, marketing/mail-out program coordination.
  • Business, technical, academic, and resume writing.
  • Editing and proofreading documents.
  • File Conversion : Word to PDF format.
  • Digital Imaging, scanning of documents, photographs, etc.
  • Design and layout of business cards, newsletters, flyers, catalogs, brochures, menus.
  • Slide presentation preparation.
  • Realtor Support: Desktop publishing, bulk mailings, database management, letter writing, thank-you card writing, and making phone calls.
  • Information Processing: Combination of word processing, data processing, database management, spreadsheets, and resume preparation.

  • Mailing services, bookkeeping, and banking services.
